Tuesday, June 8, 2004 New Gunslinger in Northeast SEC Office Mark K. Schonfeld will step up as the SEC Northeast Regional Office's (NERO) regional director, the SEC announced on Tuesday. Schonfeld has served as an associate regional director for NERO since 2001. NERO covers offices in New York City, Philadelphia and Boston. It conducts enforcement and examination programs in 13 states and D.C. Among Schonfeld's more headline-grabbing cases, as associate director, Schonfeld headed up the SEC's $250 million settlement with Alliance Capital Management. Schonfeld also led the effort against Lehman Brothers' settlement for $50 million related to equity research analysts' conflicts of interest, as well as a case against CSFB related to initial public offering distribution, the agency stated. Schonfeld replaces Wayne Carlin, who left for private practice. Prior to the SEC, Schonfeld was a litigation associate at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault.
