Wednesday, March 31, 2004 Safeco Names Acting Funds Group President Safeco has stepped quickly to fill the void left by the defection of Kevin A. Rowell. The former president of the insurer's fund group recently went to Schwab Institutional Sales as executive vice president. Taking over Rowell's duties is Safeco insider Roger Harbin. He is currently executive vice president of Safeco Life & Investments, will serve as acting president of the Safeco Mutual Funds group. However, the management team at Safeco has not made any decisions on a permanent replacement for Rowell, Julia Knight, communications manager at the firm told the MutualFundWire. Harbin initially joined Safeco in 1977, started Safeco Life’s Structured Settlement department in 1984, served as executive vice president and manager of life company operations from 1998, and was elected to Safeco’s insurance subsidies board of directors in 2001.
