A 44-Year-Old AM's Founder Passes the Reins, And ...

Three executives are on the rise at a 44-year-old, $3-billion-AUM, Midwestern mutual fund firm as its founder passes the reins. Yet he's not saying goodbye just yet.

Yesterday, George Schwartz and Tim Schwartz revealed a trio of promotions at Schwartz Investment Counsel, Inc. (investment advisor to the Ave Maria Mutual Funds). Anthony Gennaro, Brandon Scheitler, and Tim Schwartz all have new roles at the Plymouth, Michigan-based firm, and the promotions took effect on January 1.

Tim Schwartz, president of Schwartz Investment Counsel, succeeded his father George Schwartz as CEO of the firm. Yet the elder Schwartz remains chairman.

Scheitler was promoted from vice president to chief investment officer, senior vice president, and lead portfolio manager of the $989-million-AUM Ave Maria Rising Dividend Fund. George Schwartz remains co-PM of that fund and of the Ave Maria Bond Fund, which Scheitler is also the lead PM on.

Gennaro was promoted to VP. He remains lead PM of the $962-million-AUM Ave Maria Growth Fund.

George Schwartz notes that Tim Schwartz has spent 26 years at the fund firm.

"Tim brings a wealth of experience and proven track record of success," George Schwartz states.

"I am grateful for the trust and confidence placed in me by the board of directors," Tim Schwartz states. "Together with our talented team, we aim to build on the firm's legacy of success and continue to deliver value for our clients and shareholders."

After a leadership role at the National Bank and Trust of Ann Arbor, George Schwartz founded his eponymous firm in 1980, and it entered the mutual fund business in 2001. He is an alumnus of the University of Detroit.

Tim Schwartz joined his father's firm in 1998 after working with Comerica Bank and Fifth Third Bank, and he rose to president of Schwartz Investment Counsel in 2020. He is an alumnus of Walsh College and Fairfield University.

Scheitler worked at Merrill Lynch and Waddell & Reed before joining Schwartz Investment Counsel in 2007. He is an alumnus twice over of Walsh College.

Gennaro previously worked with Wallington, RS, OppenheimerFunds, Principal, and Ernst & Young. He is an alumnus of Indiana University and Albright College.
