After 11 Years, a Subadvised Shop's Chief Passes the Reins


A mutual insurer's "distinctly active" subadvised fund firm's chief is preparing to say goodbye, and a new chief is now on board.

John Barrett — chairman, president, and CEO of Cincinnati-based Western & Southern Financial Groupconfirmed that yesterday Blake Moore took over as CEO of Western & Southern's Touchstone Investments [profile]. Moore succeeds Steve Graziano, president of Touchstone, who is expected to retire at the end of 2020 (when Moore will add the president title, too).

The Cincinnati Business Courier reported on the news.

Moore reports to Jill McGruder, chief marketing officer of Western & Southern. Moore most recently served as president of North American asset management at Foresters Financial. (Moore's move follows Foresters' sales, last year, of its Canadian asset management and U.S. mutual fund businesses.

Barrett lauds Moore as "uniquely positioned to lead Touchstone" and wishes Graziano "many happy years in retirement."

Moore joined Foresters in 2018. Prior to that, he led UBS Global Asset Management's business in the Americas. Earlier on in his career, he held leadership roles at Mackenzie, AllianzGI, and Nicholas-Applegate. He started his career in the NFL, playing six seasons as offensive lineman with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Green Bay Packers. He is an alumnus of Harvard Law and of the College of Wooster.

Graziano joined Touchstone back in 2009, when the fund firm had $5.4 billion in AUM. (It now has $17.4 billion.) Before that, he spent more than 14 years at Pioneer in senior marketing and distribution leadership roles. Before that he worked at Fidelity, Boston Research Group, and Temple Barker & Sloane. He is an alumnus of UMass Amherst's Isenberg School of Management.
