Two Leaders Rise After a Midwestern Fund Firm's Prez Retired


On March 1, Michael Shwartz was promoted from senior vice president of Ave Maria Funds shop Schwartz Investment Counsel, Inc., to executive vice president in charge of institutional sales at the Plymouth, Michigan-based firm. As in his former position, Michael reports to Tim Schwartz, president and lead PM of the Ave Maria Value Fund.

Earlier this year in January, Richard Platte, who joined the firm in 1987, retired as president and chief investment officer. Schwartz's brother Tim Schwartz was promoted from executive vice president.

Joe Skorniska, chief investment officer, and Robert Schwartz succeeded Mike Schwartz as senior vice presidents.

Mike Schwartz, who graduated from the University of Dayton with a BS in Finance and from Madonna University with an MBA, joined the firm in 2003.

Skorniska graduated with a BA in Financial Administration from Michigan State University and with a MBA from the University of Michigan. He joined the firm in 2012.

Tim joined Schwartz investment in 1998. He graduated from Fairfield University with a BS in Finance and from Walsh College with an MBA.

Robert also graduated from the University of Michigan, Dearborn, with a BA in Economics and Psychology. He joined the firm in 2001.
