U Chicago Honors a Longtime Fundster Ally

The University of Chicago is honoring a top fundster entrepreneur again, this time with an award that fewer than two dozen people have ever received.

On Wednesday the university's board of trustees bestowed the University of Chicago Medal on alumnus David Booth, co-founder and executive chairman of Austin-based Dimensional Fund Advisors (DFA [profile]), confirms Madhav Rajan, dean of the university's Booth School of Business. The university named the school in Booth's honor after he donated $300 million in 2008. He also serves on the university's board of trustees.

The medal is the university's highest honor and has only been given to 23 people since it was created in 1976.

"The University Medal acknowledges the transformative support that Booth has provided to the university to ensure that the University of Chicago Booth School of Business remains one of the world's leading business schools," Rajan states.

Booth, for his part, states that he credits his "rigorous training" at the school (he got his MBA there in 1971) for his part "in the success of building Dimensional."
