Hung Hires a U.S. Distro Chief

Yie-Hsin Hung is creating a new top position at New York Life Investment Management (NYLIM), and she's found someone for the job.

Today Hung confirms the hiring of Jac McLean as head of U.S. distribution for NYLIM. McLean will join NYLIM in early June and will oversee 130 people across DC I-O, relationship management, the research platform group, third party distribution, and more. He will report directly to Hung, CEO of NYLIM.

McLean, based outside of Boston, currently serves as head of distribution for Hartford Funds [profile]. Jim Davey, president of Hartford Funds, did not return a call for comment.

"We wish Jac all the best," a Hartford Funds spokeswoman tells MFWire in an emailed statement. "Our sales and distribution team is world-class and will continue executing at the highest levels."

News of McLean's impending move to NYLIM follows several other high level changes at the asset manager. Last September, the head of institutional intermediary business at MainStay [profile], NYLIM's retail arm, moved on from the company. Later in September Hung appointed Kirk Lehneis as president of the MainStay Funds. And then in January Hung hired Ian Forrest as NYLIM's global chief marketing officer.

NYLIM's U.S. distribution team previously reported to Hung while she was searching for a U.S. distribution chief, a NYLIM spokeswoman confirms.

"We want to deliver the full aspect of the firm through a coordinated distribution effort, leveraging every part of the organization that touches clients," the NYLIM spokeswoman tells MFWire.

Hung praises McLean for his "proven track record in building strong distribution organizations and strengthening relationships with a diverse client base."

"The distribution landscape has evolved significantly in recent years, and having a leader in place who can think strategically across client segments is critical to achieving our growth aspirations," Hung states.

An alumnus of Boston College, McLean joined Hartford more than five years ago. Prior to that he held sales leadership roles at Eaton Vance and MFS.
