Last night the Investment Company Institute (ICI) kicked off the 2018 Mutual Funds and Investment Management Conference (MFIMC). This year for the first time the conference moved to the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio, Texas. The four-day event will feature remarks from Dalia Blass, Director of the Division of Investment Management at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Hester Pierce, Commissioner at the SEC. The sponsor list is a veritable who's who of mutual fund industry vendors, including: AST, BBH, BNY Mellon, Chapman and Cutler, Citi, Command Financial, CSS, Donnelly, Gunn Steers, IBD, J.P. Morgan, Kessler Topaz Meltzer Check, K&L Gates, Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, MUFG, Multifonds, Perkins Coie, RBC, SimCorp, State Street, Stradley Ronon, Strategic Insight, U.S. Bancorp, and Workiva. The conference dates back to 1965 (then under CCH), and the ICI took over in 1996.

Tomorrow the Financial Research Associates (FRA) team will kick off their seventh annual OCIO and Investment Outsourcing Summit. The two-day event will be held at the Princeton Club in New York City.

Also tomorrow, the Money Management Institute (MMI) team will kick off their 2018 Sales & Marketing Leadership Summit. The two-day event will be held at the Marriott Tampa Waterside Hotel & Marina in Tampa, Florida, and is co-chaired by Kimberly LaPoint, executive vice president and head of global accounts at PGIM Investments, and Roddy Marino, executive vice president of national accounts and distribution at Brinker Capital. Keynote speakers scheduled to appear include: Jeff Bush of The Washington Update; chairman emeritus Thomas James of Raymond James; and retired U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Sean Pybus, former deputy Commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command. Big sponsors of the conference include BNY Mellon, Discovery Data, Eaton Vance, and Fiserv.

On Thursday Peter Crane and his Crane Data team will kick off their second annual Bond Fund Symposium. The two-day event will be held at the InterContinental in downtown Los Angeles. Also on Thursday, Cboe Global Market's ETF.com team will host their fifth annual ETF.com Awards Dinner, again at the Lighthouse on Pier 61 in New York City.

Friday is the expected IPO date for DWS, the multinational asset management arm of Deutsche Bank.
