Week In Preview, March 12-18


The fourth year of "Ring the Bell for Gender Equality" wraps up tomorrow. As noted in last week's column, BATS will do a bell ringing celebration for its closing bell.

Tomorrow in New York City, the Crain team will host their third annual InvestmentNews Women to Watch luncheon. The event will be held at the Pierre in midtown Manhattan, and big sponsors include BlackRock and Envestnet.

Also tomorrow in the Big Apple, the informa team will kick off their UCITS & AIFMD For U.S. Managers 2018 conference. The two-day event will be held at the Convene on Park Avenue. Andrew Kehoe, head of legal at KB Associates, is the chair of the conference. Big sponsors of the event include Aosphere, BNY Mellon, and KB.

This week the Irish Funds team will host two events on this side of the pond. On Wednesday they will host a breakfast seminar at the Westin Copley Place in Boston, and on Thursday they'll host afternoon seminar and reception at the TKP New York Conference Centre in midtown Manhattan. Also on Wednesday, the informa team will kick off their 2018 iMoneyNet Money Market Expo (MMX), subtitled "Getting a Lift From Rising Rates." Speakers scheduled to take the main stage include: Rob Bourgeois, senior manager and client portfolio strategist at Charles Schwab Investment Management; Lou Crandall, economist at Wrightson ICAP; Deborah Cunningham, executive vice president, chief investment officer and senior PM at Federated Investors; Teresa Ho, executive director at J.P. Morgan Securities; , Deputy Assistant Secretary for Federal Finance in the U.S. Treasury; Tom Quaadman, EVP at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Center for Capital Markets Competitiveness; Brian Reynolds, asset class strategist at Canaccord Genuity; Brett Wander, senior vice president and CIO at Charles Schwab Investment Management; and many more.

On Thursday Dalia Blass, Director of the Division of Investment Management in the SEC and Hester Peirce, Commissioner of the SEC are both scheduled to speak at the Investment Adviser Association's 2018 Compliance Conference. Peter Driscoll, Director of the SEC's Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations (OCIE) and Stephanie Avakian, Co-Director of the Division of Enforcement, are also expected to participate.

On Sunday the team at the Investment Company Institute (ICI) will kick off their 2018 Mutual Funds and Investment Management Conference (MFIMC). The four-day event will take place at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio, Texas. The SEC's Blass and Peirce are both scheduled to speak at the conference.

A Guggenheim investment outlook press event in New York City, rescheduled for tonight after initially being scheduled for December 11 of last year, has been postponed for a second time. The event had been set to take place at the Wright Restaurant at the Guggenheim museum and would've featured: Jerry Miller, president of Guggenheim Investments; Scott Minerd, global chief investment officer, and Alan Schwartz, executive chairman of Guggenheim Partners.
