Happy Birthday Mr. Dreyfus

Who said that there is not life after the fund industry? Jack Dreyfus, founder of the fund firm now owned by Mellon bank turned 90 yesterday. Although he stepped down from Dreyfus in the mid-1960s after a battle with depression. He then founded the Dreyfus Medical Foundation, where he continues to work.

The fruits of those labors will be a new book -- The Story of a Remarkable Medicine. He is also scheduled to receive an honorary doctorate degree from Ben-Gurion University in Israel in recognition of his "deep-rooted concern for the mental welfare of mankind" and "his tireless work to make a difference for all peoples throughout the world."

Dreyfus may be best known inside the fund industry for his creation of a black and white television ad featuring a now famous lion as much as he is known for founding the fund family. Indeed, the ad won him Standard & Poor's gold trophy for "Excellence in Wall Street Advertising."
