Now that Labor Day is past, 401(k) Day is almost here! This Friday, September 8, retirement plan industry insiders and plan sponsors will celebrate the annual holiday, which traditionally falls on the Friday after Labor Day.

Tomorrow in Chicago the Morningstar team will kick off the 2017 Morningstar ETF Conference. The two-day event, which will be held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, will feature a variety of speakers, including: Andrew Ang of BlackRock, Jamil Baz of Pimco, Chris Brightman of Research Affiliates, Joseph Davis of Vanguard, Barry Ritholtz of Ritholtz Wealth Management, and Dick Thaler of the University of Chicago. Big sponsors of the conference include: Columbia Threadneedle, Deutsche Asset Management, Guggenheim, IndexIQ, Invesco PowerShares, J.P. Morgan, and Vanguard.

Also tomorrow, Atlanta-based Triad Advisors' team will host their four-day annual national conference, this time at the Hilton Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California. The 19-year-old broker-dealer now has more than 600 FAs.

Also tomorrow, the Money Management Institute (MMI) team will hold a one-day "Leadership Pathway Seminar" at the Pyramid Club in Philadelphia. BNY Mellon is the big sponsor of the event, which is co-chaired by Neuberger Berman national sales manager Ross David and Clark Capital Management marketing director Patty Quinn McAuley.

On Thursday UBS will conduct a multi-location press conference across three cities: London, New York, and Zurich. The "Sustainable and Impact Investing Event" will feature remarks (in London) from UBS group CEO Sergio Ermotti, and a host of other executives from across various silos of the firm. Other speakers will include: Christopher Greenwald, head of sustainable investing research, and Michael Baldinger, head of sustainable and impact investing, both from UBS Asset Management; James Gifford, senior impact investing strategist, UBS Wealth Management; Stephen Freedman, head of sustainable investing; UBS Wealth Management Americas; Mark Haefele, global chief investment officer, UBS Wealth Management; Simon Smiles, chief investment officer for ultra high net worth, UBS Wealth Management; and others.

Also on Thursday, Allianz Global Investors will host reporters for an evening cocktails and hors d'oeuvres reception at the MoMA in New York City. Both Neil Dwane, global strategist, and Deborah Zurkow, chief investment officer of alternatives, are expected to speak at the event, which will also feature tours of the museum's Robert Raushcenberg: Among Friends" exhibit.

On Friday morning in Washington, D.C., the SEC and NYU's Salomon Center for the Study of Financial Institutions will host an event on exchange-traded products. The planned speaker list includes: SEC Commissioners Michael Piwowar and Kara Stein; Scott Bauguess, acting chief economist at the SEC; Itzhak Ben-David from the Ohio State University; Rick Fleming, office of investor advocate at the SEC; Deborah Fuhr, managing partner and co-founder of ETFGI; Anthony Lynch from New York University; Ananth Madhavan, head of global research for ETFs and index investing at BlackRock; Jeffrey Meli, co-head of research at Barclays; Laura Morrison, global head of exchange traded products at BATS; Kathleen Moriarty, partner at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer; Jim Ross, chairman of global SPDRs at State Street; Russ Wermers from the University of Maryland; and Jason Zweig of the Wall Street Journal. The event, which will be held at the SEC's headquarters, is part of the "SEC-NYU Dialogue on Securities Market Regulation". The event is open to the public.

Also on Friday morning, Betterment CEO Jon Stein will hold a media breakfast discussion in honor of 401(k) day. The event, which will be held at Betterment's New York City headquarters, will focus on Betterment's own 401(k) offering, Betterment for Business.
