This afternoon, Alps ETF chief Mike Akins and other Alps insiders and allies will gather in Times Square to ring the Nasdaq stock market closing bell. Tomorrow the Strategic Insight team will kick off their 2017 Fund Trends conference at New York City's Chelsea Piers. The two-day conference, the industry research and data shop's ninth annual one, will feature speakers including: Dennis Bowden, managing director of U.S. at Strategic Insight; Kevin Clifford, CEO and chairman of Capital Group's American Funds; Sanjiv Mirchandani, president of Fidelity Clearing and Custody Solutions; Avi Nachmany, co-founder and senior advisor at Strategic Insight; Jeffrey Strange, managing director of U.S. research at Strategic Insight; and a number of panelists. Gemini, Eaton Vance's NextShares, SalesPage, SEI, and SalesStation are all sponsoring the conference. Also tomorrow in New York City, the Investment Program Association (IPA) team and Crain Communications' InvestmentNews team will gather female financial services industry executives for the Women's Forum: Focus on Leadership at the University Club of New York. The half-day event will begin after lunch, and speakers scheduled to take the main stage include: Christina Barone of W.P. Carey; Ella Neyland, president of the Steadfast Apartment REIT; Suzanne Siracuse, vice president and publisher of I-News; Brie Williams, head of practice management at State Street Global Advisors (SSgA); Cara Williams, senior partner and global wealth leader for Mercer's multinational client group; and a number of panelists. On Wednesday, also in New York City, the Money Management Institute (MMI) team will hold a Legal & Compliance Seminar at Morgan Lewis' offices. The managed account industry trade group's one-day event features a number of panels and is co-chaired by Evan Charles, managing director and associate general counsel of global wealth and investment management at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and Nina Shenker, managing director at J.P. Morgan. BNY Mellon is also sponsoring the event. Also on Wednesday in New York City, the Osney Media team is hosting TSAM New York at the New York Marriott Marquis. (TSAM stands for "The Summit for Asset Management".) The one-day event features an opening, keynote discussion on the "robo-revolution", with several panelists: Daniel Egan, director of behavioral finance and investments at Betterment; Colin Kennedy, chief revenue officer at Clarity Money; James Mackinaw, managing director of digital wealth solutions at BlackRock; and Vicki Zhou, co-founder and co-CEO at WiseBanyan. On Thursday, also in New York City, the Capital Link team will team up with the NYSE to hold Capital Link's fourth annual Dissect ETFs Forum, this time at the Metropolitan Club. Christopher Davis, PM and chairman of Davis Advisors, is the keynote speaker for the event. Also on Thursday in New York City, the Fixed Income Analysts Society, Inc. (FIASI) will conduct their 22nd annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony and dinner. The dinner will be held at the Roosevelt Hotel, and DoubleLine CEO Jeffrey Gundlach and Dodge & Cox CEO/President/fixed income director Dana Emery are this year's honorees. On Friday in Chicago, the Financial Planning Association (FPA) team will kick off their NexGen Gathering at North Central College. The three-day, casual event (FPA says "Jeans, shorts and flip flops are all fine!") is geared towards "the next generation of financial planners," and attendees can stay on the college campus or at nearby Marriott.
