Sloane Expands USAA's Key Account and Investment Resource Teams

Keith Sloane just added two more people to his national accounts team at USAA [profile], and he's expanding another unit, too.

Head of Third Party Distribution
Sloane, head of third-party distribution for the mutual fund business at USAA Investment Management, confirms that Ryan Hodapp and Nora McCormack recently joined his national accounts team, both in newly created roles that report to Sloane. And Sloane is still on the hunt.

"One of the areas that we are building really good talent and capabilities in is our team that engages the home offices from the top down ... We expect to continue to expand that," Sloane tells MFWire, noting that he leads a team of five now in national accounts. "We're in this for the long-term process of building as we grow."

He's also looking to expand his investment resource group, which is mostly made up of hybrid wholesalers.

"They focus most heavily on RIAs and the independent channels ... That's a group for us that has been very effective in engaging advisors and serving advisors," Sloane says. "We continue to expand that group a bit at a time. It's very scalable."

Hodapp joins USAA as analyst relations director, based in Kansas City. He most recently held a similar position at Wells Fargo Asset Management [profile].

A spokesman for Wells was not immediately able to comment on how Hodapp's duties are being handled.

McCormack joins USAA as director of key accounts relationship management, based in New York City. She most recently served as a key account manager at Schroders [profile]. Last year Schroders shifted its U.S. intermediary distribution to Hartford, and Schroders' U.S. intermediary distribution chief, Carter Sims, moved on.

A spokeswoman for Schroders declined to comment on McCormack's departure.

Sloane notes that both McCormack and Hodapp have worked with both broker-dealers and asset managers.

"Ryan and Nora have been on both sides of the aisle," Sloane says.

Hodapp is an alumnus of Saint Louis University and of Boston University. He worked at A.G. Edwards (now part of Wells Fargo Advisors), BoFA, and Columbia before joining Wells Fargo Asset Management in 2010.

McCormack is an alumnus of the University of Miami and of the University of Edinburgh. She worked at Merrill before joining Schroders in 2011.
