A Partner Leaves Wellington After 15 Years

A partner and mutual fund PM is leaving Wellington Management [profile] this summer after 15 years with the institutional asset manager.

Francis Boggan
Hartford Capital Appreciation HLS Fund
Senior Managing Director, Equity Portfolio Manager
A recent regulatory filing confirms that on June 30 Frank Boggan "will be withdrawing from the partnership." Boggan, senior managing director and equity PM at Wellington, is one of the PMs on the two-star, $5.5-billion Hartford Capital Appreciation HLS Fund. He is a senior member of Wellington's mid cap growth, quality growth, and opportunistic core equity teams, and a co-PM of its opportunistic core and large cap opportunistic core efforts.

A spokeswoman for Boston-based Wellington declined to comment for this story, citing company policy against talking to the press about Wellington's personnel or about the partnership. MFWire could not immediately reach a spokeswoman for Radnor, Pennsylvania-based Hartford Funds [profile] for comment on the upcoming change.

Per the filing, Kent Stahl (senior managing director, partner, and director of investment strategy and risk at Wellington) and Gregg Thomas (senior managing director, partner, and associate director of strategy and risk) "will continue to select and oversee the [Hartford Capital Appreciation HLS] Fund's portfolio management team and determine how Fund assets are allocated among the team's members." Other PMs on the fund include: Nicolas Choumenkovitch, SVP, partner, and lead equity PM for Wellington's international/global opportunities team; Peter Higgins, SVP and equity PM at Wellington; Donald Kilbride, SVP, partner, and equity PM at Wellington; Steve Mortimer, SVP, partner, and equity PM on Wellington's capital appreciation and growth opportunities teams; David Palmer, SVP, partner, and equity PM and research analyst on Wellington's opportunistic value team; Saul Pannell, SVP, partner, and equity PM at Wellington; and Philip Ruedi, SVP, partner, and equity PM on Wellington's mid cap opportunities team.

Boggan is an alumnus of SUNY Buffalo and USC. He worked at Palladian Capital Management, Pioneer, and Farmers before joining Wellington in 2001. He has been on the Hartford fund's PM team since 2011.

As previously reported by MFWire, another Wellington partner and PM, Jamie Rome, will also be leaving on June 30.
