Reporters Climb the Great Wall of Worry With Eaton Vance

"Channel your inner Yellen."

Bob Cunha
Eaton Vance
Managing Director, Marketing and Distribution Strategy
Bob Cunha, managing director and head of marketing and distribution strategy at Eaton Vance [profile], gave that quip/request to global income co-director and vice president Eric Stein today at the Boston-based, publicly-traded mutual fund shop's sixth annual investment perspectives media luncheon. 20 or so reporters converged on the Modern restaurant at MoMA (the Museum of Modern Art) in midtown Manhattan for the lunch. Cunha hosted and moderated a panel discussion of four top PMs: Richard Bernstein, CEO and chief investment officer of Richard Bernstein Advisors; Kathleen Gaffney, vice president and co-director of diversified fixed income; Eddie Perkin, chief equity investment officer and value team leader; and Stein.

The press and fundsters alike enjoyed a three-course lunch: butter lettuce salad with avocado and parmesan cheese; a choice of salmon with melted leeks and sauce grenobloise or beef tenderloin with caramelized celery root and preserved tomato; and creme fraiche cheese cake topped with scottish shortbread and black currant sorbet.

Cunha did a Q&A with the PMs first, then opened it up to the reporter audience for questions, too. Topics discussed included: when the Fed might raise interest (and what it might mean), what's going on with China, the recent stock market volatility, the possibility of a U.S. recession next year, the rising premium for liquidity, and when (or if) the dollar bull market might end.

Bernstein also noted that he's the only panelist who's been at all six of the annual Eaton Vance investment perspectives media luncheons.
