White Powdery Substance Found at Vanguard

Snow isn't the only white powder raising tensions for the Vanguard team.

On Wednesday, Vanguard Group mailroom employees in Chester County found an envelope with an unidentified white powdery substance inside. In an e-mailed statement to 401kwire, a Vanguard spokesperson says that, "A granular substance found on January 21 inside an envelope mailed to Vanguard was determined harmless. A shelter in place order was lifted for employees at Vanguard's 400 Devon Park location in Wayne soon after authorities deemed the substance to be safe. Employees followed the correct policies and procedures. There were no injuries."

Soon afterwards, the local HazMat team arrived on the scene. Around 3 PM, officials from the Tredyffrin Police Department and the Berwyn Fire Company assessed the situation to be under control.

401kWire could not immediately reach police and fire officials for comment on the incident.

Hazmat members were seen leaving the building with the white envelopes, Michael Price of the Chester County Daily Local reports.
