Rest in Peace, Geoff Bobroff

A veteran consultant to the mutual fund industry passed away over the weekend. If you didn't know him, you should have.

Geoffrey H. Bobroff
In an e-mailed statement, a spokesperson for Geoff Bobroff's family tells MFWire that Bobroff, 70, died Saturday night of "an apparent heart attack." Bobroff led his own East Greenwich, Rhode Island-based consulting company, Bobroff Consulting, Inc., which he founded in 1993.

Over five decades, Bobroff worked in a variety of roles across the investment management industry. He started out as a trial attorney for the SEC, and later he held high-level positions at Integrated Resources, J. & W. Seligman and Lipper Analytical. He also held various industry board seats, and since 2006 he served as chairman of the board of the Matthews Asia Funds [see Matthews' statement]. Bobroff was also a frequent media voice for the mutual fund industry, and was quoted in a variety of national news outlets and trade publications alike.

Born in Macomb, Illinois and raised mostly in Miami, Florida, Bobroff received both a B.S. in accounting and a law degree from the University of Miami. The family spokesperson said that Geoff was also "an avid jigsaw puzzler."

Geoff Bobroff is survived by numerous relatives, including: his wife, Lucille Comes; his son Lucas Bobroff of Ellington, Connecticut; his daughter Rachel Bobroff of Dallas; his son Zach Bobroff of Atlanta; his sister Sherry Folb of Scottsdale; and his brother Seth Bobroff of Phoenix.

The family spokesperson stated that final arrangements for Geoff would be private. Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations in Geoff's memory be sent "to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the charity of your choice."
