Tuesday, May 13, 2014 Bogle Had His "Folly," What's Yours? Some of you are probably tired of hearing from the Gospel of Saint Jack. Mr. Bogle, the founder of Vanguard, who turned the industry upside down and continues to do so via his invention (I know this will probably generate outcries and other claims, but let's give the man his due right now) of the index fund. You hear about his ideas all over the place, regarding financial advisors, regarding fund fees, regarding executive salaries, high frequency trading, yada yada yada. Now there is a Forbes article outlining all the grief Bogle suffered through when he first launched the Vanguard S&P500 in 1976. It was even dubbed Bogle's Folly as you probably already know and have heard dozens of times. Fine. Maybe there is too much attention to Bogle. Maybe there isn't enough. So, if you are tired of hearing about the commandments of Saint Jack, then consider this, what's your folly and do you have the gumption to follow through on it. Maybe we'll start listening to you.
