Jason Kephart at InvestmentNews takes a look at the BlackRock Global Long/Short Equity Fund, which was launched a year ago Dec. 20. According to Kephart, the $370 million AUM fund is managed by BlackRock's Scientific Active Equity team, which has 90 staffers and also manages the $635 million BlackRock Emerging Markets Long/Short Fund. The team managing the fund uses gigantic amounts of data -- four times the size of Wikipedia and eight times the size of the Library of Congress -- on public company earnings, analyst calls, news releases, what have you, to gain on insights into different stocks, according to Kephart. “We're leveraging everything we have to our advantage,” co-portfolio manager Paul Ebner tells Kephart.
