Monday, December 9, 2013 Are Liquid Alts the Next ETFs? Goldman Thinks So Will liquid alternatives take off like ETFs did? Goldman Sachs [profile] thinks so. Brendan Conway of Barron's highlights a note released Friday by Goldman strategists Marc Irizarry, Stephen Jones and Danielle Matsumoto in which the trio "go so far as to compare liquid alts' promise to the fast-growing early days of exchange-traded funds." They predict that liquid alts could boom by 15-20 percent a year and pass $2 trillion. Of course, Goldman is a giant alternatives asset manager. Barron's, meanwhile, wonders if liquid alts stand a chance unless things go wrong in more traditional assets. And the Goldman strategists acknowledge that, if liquid alts' popularity exceeds their capacity, investors could get mad in a flash.
