Four Fundsters Are Building an Alts Shop

The alternatives road to '40 Act Country is luring more frontiersmen.

Four veteran fundsters, Robert Steele, Scott Wennerholm, Mark Bentley and Brian Schreiner, are hard at work building up the ALTS Investment Group

According to the company's website, the firm is "focused on helping emerging managers who specialize in liquid alternative strategies gain access to the largest pools of investor money: wealth advisors. We will provide dedicated marketing and shared operations to an exclusive set of managers and share in our success through mutual ownership."

In the words of Wnnerholm on his Linkedin page, the firm is "a multi-boutique asset management company focused on developing and distributing liquid alternative investment products." The excess are "actively seeking to obtain majority stake in established liquid alternatives managers. Currently developing strategy, building infrastructure and negotiating outside investment capital."

Steele is chief executive of the firm. Previously co-founder and president of Bishop Asset Management, Steele worked at Rydex Investments, where he was a founding executive and ultimately served as executive vice president responsible for product development, sales, marketing and business development.

Steele has been on MFWire's radar in the past, being featured here, here and here.

Wennerholm, meanwhile, is chief operating officer. He previously had the same title at BNY Mellon Asset Management. His responsibilities there included shared operations, compliance and risk management oversight, technology development, and operations strategy. Before that, he was COO for Chief Operating Officer for CDC Ixis Asset Management Advisors Group, the distribution arm for this multi-manager firm (now known as Natixis).

Bentley is chief distribution officer. Previously he was senior vice president, Head of Intermediary Distribution for Old Mutual Asset Management. He had also served as managing director, National Sales Manager at Rydex, and before that was vice president and regional sales manager for Dreyfus Service Corporation and vice president of Bank Sales at The Boston Company.

Brian Schreiner is executive vice president, having also served as chief compliance officer and chief operations officer at Schreiner Capital Management, Inc.
