Pimco Inches Toward Life After Gross

One day Bill Gross will retire, and Pimco [profile] is bracing itself.

Charles Stein and Alexis Leondis of Bloomberg highlight how the Allianz subsidiary has become less Gross-dependent in recent years. For example, 63 percent of Pimco's mutual fund assets as of March 31 were managed by 69-year-old Gross, down from 84 percent 10 years ago.

Consultant Burt Greenwald told the wire service that "Pimco has tried to downplay Gross and build an institutional brand."

The article highlights some of Gross' monthly outlook commentary. It also offers commentary from Pimco CEO Mohamed El-Erian, Strategic Insight research director Avi Nachmany, financial advisor Kurt Brouwer, Alpha Capital Management research chief Anna Dunn, consultant Geoff Bobroff, Sierra Core Retirement Fund PM Kenneth Sleeper, Morningstar mutual fund research director Russ Kinnel, Harvard Business School professor Nancy Koehn, Weston Financial Group chief investment officer Ronald Sugameli, and R.W. Roge & Co. PM Steven Roge.
