FUSE Tries to Predict 2013

MFWire is glad no one can predict the future; if they could, news sites like this would not be particularly useful.

FUSE Research Network, though, gives it a go in predicting 10 trends to look for in the mutual fund industry in 2013.

FUSE president Mike Evans said that with everyone in ths industry always trying to look forward, the point of this project was to tell people the most important things to pay attention to.

One of the major points is is that many firms are looking to hire in the sales department in the coming year. Of the firms talked to, 43 percent said they plan to add to their national accounts staff, 48 percent to their internal staff, 40 percent to their field wholesalers and 33 percent to their hybrid wholesalers.

Evans said this shouldn't be overstated, though.

"Most firms aren't having massive expansions within these groups," he told MFWire in an interview.

The news release also included a long list of "firms to watch", which ranged from shops like First Eagle to massive operations including John Hancock.
