After a Thinning of the Herd, M* Ponders the Return of Quants

Quant funds are back, albeit in a thinner herd. In a "Fund Spy" column on Monday, senior fund analyst Greg Carlson of Morningstar highlights the rebound of returns for the quantitative mutual funds still in the market after rough years in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The mutual fund ratings shop now tracks 57 quant mutual funds, down from 65 over the past two and a half years.

M* points to Bridgeway [profile] and Goldman Sachs [profile] as the two big quant mutual fund shops, and details changes the duo recently made. The article mentions a number of mutual funds, including: the Bridgeway Aggressive Investors Fund, the Bogle Small Cap Growth Fund [profile], and the AQR Momentum Fund [profile].
