Half a Dozen Contenders Vie for the Top Legg Mason Job

The race to replace Mark Fetting at Legg Mason [profile] is still on, and two internal candidates are in hot pursuit of the job, according to a Reuters report.

Joseph Sullivan, the firm's sales chief and interim chief executive, and Ronald Dewhurs, a senior executive vice-president for affiliate relations, are among the approximately half dozen candidates to be Legg's new CEO, writes reporter Ross Kerber.

Ever since Fetting left in September, the rumors have been swirling over who could potentially fill the job at the Baltimore giant.

Legg Mason spokeswoman Mary Athridge declined to give any information to Kerber, simply saying that the firm is "continuing to work toward making a decision in an expeditious manner."

Kerber notes that the company has had trouble keeping cash and has problems with some affiliates.
