The Wall Street Journal writes today about what happens when two funds have similar enough names that their shops must come to legal means to sort things out. One example? Journal reporter Rachel Louise Ensign writes on the case of Loomis, Sayles and Co. and Absolute Investment Advisers. Absolute got the name of their Absolute Strategies fund trademarked, and didn't take kindly to the new fund Loomis Sayles Absolute Strategies. After a settlement, Loomis, a Natixis affiliate, changed its fund's moniker last week to Loomis Sayles Strategic Alpha. For more examples of fund name wars, read the original article.
