Gundlach Predicts and Recruits

Jeff Gundlach's newfound interest in equities continues to make headlines.

Last week the DoubleLine [profile] chief told Bloomberg that within a few months he could hire PM teams to launch U.S. stock funds and a long-short hedge fund. Then InvestmentNews followed up by wondering if Gundlach would hire equity PM teams away from his old employers at TCW [profile].

For this week's issue of InvestmentNews, the trade pub's Jason Kephart included a new, shorter version of his original article, this time with a little less info about the TCW Carlyle deal, no comment from TCW, and a new headline, "Gundlach may be seeking equity stars at TCW."

Separately, Alexis Leondis of Bloomberg wrote a follow-up article covering Gundlach's feelings on the stock market. Speaking at the Bloomberg Markets 50 Summit in New York, the star fixed income PM said that "equities are a superior investment to bonds for an inflation hedge."

"Equities may be challenged in the near term," Gundlach said. "But I doubt you're going to have this lost decade or lost 15 years of equities again."
