Paul Ryan's Mutual Fund Holdings Are Under Examination

Paul Ryan is getting prodded and examined in all facets of his life, from bills he's sponsored to his Ayn Rand fandom.

You can add his mutual fund portfolio to that list.

The Street's Stan Luxenberg took a look at the Republican vice-presidential nominee's investments in an article posted Tuesday, the day before the Wisconsin congressman is set to accept his nomination.

Disclosure documents posted at the website by the Center for Responsive Politics (opensecrets.org) showed that Ryan and his wife Janna have roughly $3.2 million in assets, much of which is in mutual funds. All in all, Luxenberg reports the Ryans own shares of more than 30 mutual funds.

Ryan's holdings include the Pimco Total Return [profile] and the Fidelity Contrafund [profile].

Luxenberg "designed" a portfolio for the family that's suitable for their age and family needs. He says the Ryans' portfolio shows that they followed the approach of most investors — buying funds that they want, and those that are promising, and ending up paying unnecessary expenses by holding too many funds.
