An Ex-Van Kampen CEO Takes a Private Equity Gig

A former top fund industry executive has made a jump to private equity: Jerry Miller, who was CEO of Van Kampen Investments until Morgan Stanley sold that business to Invesco in January of 2010.

Miller has now signed on with Lightyear Capital as senior advisor on behalf of its affiliated funds, reports FinAlternatives. Lightyear is a New York City-based private equity firm.

Before signing on with Lightyear, Miller took over the top job at Van Kampen in March of 2008 when he succeeded Michael Kiley at the then Morgan Stanley-owned money manager.

Before joining Morgan Stanley in 2006, he was COO of the global proprietary business of Merrill Lynch Investment Management (MLIM), where headed sales, marketing and key account coverage activities worldwide, and was co-head of MLIM's retail separate accounts group.

The MFWire nominated Miller as one of the mutual fund industry's most influential distribution executives in 2009.
