AMG Scoops Up a 5-Star Fund Shop
An five-star fund shop is joining the Affiliated Managers Group (AMG [profile]) family. The publicly-traded acquirer just unveiled a deal to buy a majority interest in Austin, Texas-based, $17-billion-AUM Yacktman Asset Management [profile]. AMG's affiliates boasted about $352 billion in total assets under management as of December 31.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Goldman Sachs advised Yacktman on the sale.
"AMG’s innovative partnership approach allows us to preserve our firm’s entrepreneurial culture and investment autonomy while accessing the breadth of resources of a leading global asset management company,” stated Donald Yacktman, who founded the firm twenty years ago. "Our partnership with AMG enables us to address long-term succession planning needs through an equity incentive program which provides liquidity to the current partners and to future generations fosters stability within the organization, and, most importantly, offers significant support to continue the business momentum we have established.”
The current managing partners of Yacktman will continue to manage the day-to-day operations of the business, and, according to AMG, "all of Yacktman's senior professionals have agreed to long-term commitments with the firm".
