Monday, November 11, 2002 Fido Promotes Select Fund Manager Boston-based Fidelity Investments has promoted John Porter, a natural resources sector analyst who oversees four sector funds, to portfolio manager of the diversifed Advisor Dynamic Capital Appreciation Fund. Porter will take on his new duties December 1, according to Anne Crowley, a fidelity spokeswoman. He has been managing the Select Energy Portfolio, Select Natural Resources Portfolio, Advisor Natural Resources Fund and VIP Natural Resources Portfolio. Moreover, Crowley said the firm has yet to name a new manager, or managers, for those sector funds. Porter is taking over for Fergus Shiel, who was handed additional responsibilities earlier this year. Shiel was appointed portfolio manager of the hefty Fidelity Fifty fund at the start of this year, and he manages the Fidelity Independence Fund as well.
