Wednesday, March 7, 2012 Pioneer Funds Shift to an Independent Chairman Pioneer Funds [profile] will soon have an independent chairman. Effective May 19, Thomas Perna will take over from John Cogan as the chairman of the board of trustees of Pioneer Investments' mutual fund family. Cogan, a former CEO of Pioneer Group, will continue as president and trustee of the funds. "The transition to an independent chairman accords with current governance trends in the mutual fund industry," according to a Pioneer press release. Perna has been an independent director of Pioneer Funds since 2006. He retired from Bank of New York in 2004 and currently sits on the boards at Broadridge Financial Solutions and Quadriserv.
