Monday, March 5, 2012 Fidelity Goes to Patent War Fidelity Investments [profile] has gone to court in a bid to ward off a potential lawsuit involving the mobile payment technology in its iPhone application. The Boston Herald reports that Sunnyvale, California-based Maxim Integrated Products sent Fidelity a letter last October asking the latter to pay licensing fees for technology that is patented by Maxim. Fidelity then beat Maxim to court, lodging a civil complaint in Boston federal court last month. Fidelity asked the judge to rule that it did not commit patent infringement. The Boston Herald notes that Maxim so far this year has filed suit against Starbucks, Southwest Airlines, Groupon and other firms.
