Ned Johnson Wins Over Columbia's President

Columbia Management's [profile] U.S. president is heading out, and he's joining Ned Johnson's team. Mike Jones is about to take over Fidelity's Smithfield, Rhode Island-based institutional asset management arm, Pyramis Global Advisors, as president, chairman and CEO. Pyramis boasts about $165 billion in assets.

Ryan Lund, a spokesman for Columbia parent Ameriprise, said that Ameriprise's U.S. asset management CEO, Ted Truscott, continues to lead Columbia.

"We appreciate Mike's many years of service to the organization and wish him well," Lund told MFWire.com in an e-mailed statement. "We have a strong, experienced leadership team in place that will share his responsibilities."

The Boston Globe, the Boston Herald and Pensions & Investments all reported on the news.

Jones will report to Fidelity president Ron O'Hanley and will succeed Kevin Uebelein, who will take the newly created post of global head of solutions delivery for Pyramis. He starts at Pyramis in mid-March.
