Scudder Vet Opens Boutique

Fund industry veteran Peter Mattoon is partnering up with ex-Goldman Sachs banker David Ogens on a new asset management firm catering to the high-net-worth market. The firm will act as a manager-of-managers and not build its own stock-picking practice, according to a report in the Boston Globe. Mattoon had retired from Zurich Scudder after Deutsche Bank's purchase of that firm. He was chief operating officer for Zurich Scudder's global mutual fund group.

Ogens left Goldman last fall after the investment bank shuttered its Boston technology banking office. He had led the creation of the office in December 1998.

The pair have hired investment professionals form Eaton Vance and Pell Rudman & Company and will cater to individuals with more than $10 million of investable assets. Their hope is to have more than $3 billion in assets at the firm within two years. SCS Financial, the new firm, is based in Waltham, Massachusetts.
