Oaks, Pennsylvania-based SEI will serve as administrator-distributor for Chartwell's two open-end mutual funds, pending shareholder approval, and as administrator for one closed-end mutual fund. The funds have combined assets of more than $190 million. Berwyn, Pennsylvania-based Chartwell aims to leverage SEI's fund technology solutions, including m@x.works, an Internet-based consolidator and information delivery tool. "We were impressed with SEI's comprehensive solution and commitment to the mutual-fund services business," said Wynn Jessup, a Chartwell managing partner and chairman. "Their superior technology and value-added electronic information delivery capabilities clinched the choice." The $5 billion firm was founded in 1997 and is employee-owned. The firm invests in a wide range of equity products for institutional and high-net-worth investors. This initial deal may translate into other service agreements, such as in the high net-worth, personal trust services area, noted a spokesperson for SEI. "We're very pleased to expand our services to a fine investment firm like Chartwell," said Wayne Withrow, Executive Vice President of SEI Investments and head of the company's Money Manager business unit. "The fact that our superior technology was a catalyst for their decision further validates our e-transformation strategy."
