Monday, October 28, 2002 Van Kampen Goes with R Shares Van Kampen is currently negotiation deals with its distribution channel to add four new funds to its selling agreements. The four new funds are R share class versions of existing funds intended for distribution to the qualified plan market. The move by the unit of Morgan Stanley to added specialized shares for the retirement industry follows the lead of a number of fund firms. The most prominent fund firm to add these shares was American Funds, which debuted its offerings last May. The R Shares are now available for Van Kampen Comstock Fund, Van Kampen Emerging Growth Fund, Van Kampen Equity and Income Fund, as well as Van Kampen Growth and Income Fund. "Van Kampen is committed to offering first-class investment products to our clients in the way that works best for them," said Andrew Scherer, executive director of Defined Contribution Sales. "Our new R Shares will help bring time-tested investment strategies and management teams to retirement plans nationwide. We look forward to working with advisors and plan administrators to offer these Shares to their clients." The shares will be sold to 401(k) plans, 457 plans, defined benefit plans, profit sharing and money purchase pension plans, non-qualified deferred compensation plans, and employer-sponsored 403(b) plans held in plan level or omnibus accounts.
