Will Charles Johnson Take Over as GM of the Giants?

The San Jose Mercury News has named Franklin Templeton[see profile] chairman Charles Johnson as a possible successor as general manager to outgoing San Francisco Giants' CEO Bill Neukom.

Neukom, the baseball team's managing general partner and chief executive officer, "will retire from his position effective Dec. 31," the team said in a news release. However, Neukom has reportedly been asked to retire his CEO and general manager positions by the 10-member executive committee of the Giants' ownership group due to a series of disagreements with the committee during his three-year stint with the team.

Other candidates for the Giants' general manager include Yahoo President Jeffrey Mallett and petrochemical multimillionaire William Chang. All are Bay Area residents.
