Putnam Scores a Hole in One

A 25-year-old rookie golfer is making Putnam Investments [see profile] look ridiculously good after the Boston-based shop signed him to a sponsorship deal earlier this year. That's because Keegan Bradley, who only signed the deal three months ago, won PGA Championship tournament on Sunday.

Jeff Carney, head of global marketing for Putnam, told the Boston Herald: "The deal is significantly exceeding expectations on what we forecasted when we made the investment."

Bradley also emerged victorious in the Byron Nelson Championship in May. His victory came just weeks after he signed a deal with Putnam. He also shows up at golf clinics for Putnam customers and executives, and serves as an ambassador for the brand, according to the report.

Shawn McBride, director of client services at Ketchum Sports & Entertainment, told the pub that Putnam will reap the benefits as he plays major tournaments in the fall. "Keegan's going to be followed from Thursday all the way until the final hole, as long as he continues to win," he said. "That’s a lot of exposure for Putnam."

Putnam isn't a rookie in the sports marketing world. The firm last month inked a deal with the Kraft Sports Group, which owns the New England Patriots, and last year partnered up with the U.S. Ski Team and U.S. Snowboarding.
