Jeff Gundlach Has His Eye on an NFL Team

Jeff Gundlach has football on his mind these days even though the National Football League is embroiled in monetary squabbles between its players and owners. The DoubleLine Capital [see profile] chief told The Wall Street Journal's Daily Fix blog that he's interested in buying the Buffalo Bills.

Gundlach, who grew up in the Buffalo area, told Daily Fix that he's trying to assemble a group to purchase the team from its owner, Ralph Wilson, who is 92. Gundlach said he brought up the idea to several wealthy clients that he manages money for.

For its part, the Bills said that the team isn’t for sale.

"One of these days, maybe five years from now -- I hope it's 20 years from now -- the Bills will have to have an ownership change," Gundlach told a Buffalo TV station, comments that were picked up by the LA Times. "And I think it would be a tragedy to have the Bills go to some random city and.be called, you know, the L.A. Multitude or whatever the hell they’d call it. I want them to be the Buffalo Bills.” The team suffered through a 4-12 season last year and has not sniffed the post-season since 1995.

ESPN also covered the news.
