Morningstar Checks in on the Invesco-Van Kampen Marriage

How is the Morgan Stanley/Van Kampen retail asset management deal working out for Invesco [see profile] so far? Morningstar fund analyst Ryan Leggio seems cautiously optimistic, arguing that Invesco "has handled the merger well so far."

"In areas where Invesco's investment lineup has been weak, it's taken steps to address specific problems ... Van Kampen was strong where Invesco was weak," Morningstar notes, pointing to Van Kampen's strength in domestic value equity and municipal bond funds, compared to Invesco's strength in growth equity. "Invesco is on stronger footing than it was a few years ago ... Many of the company's recent actions will lead to better and lasting results for fund shareholders."
