For this year's list, the MFWire's editorial staff weighed nearly 400 nominations and votes from our readers. Some of those on the list may be a surprise, and some names are certainly expected. In measuring influence, we looked at hard criteria including the size of the fund firm where the nominee is employed and how that firm is faring as a business as well what positions of leadership the nominee has taken with industry groups. Just as important are the ideas that the nominee has spread to others, including others in the industry, regulators and the investors themselves. Finally, we weighed the personal influence the nominee has with others. That intangible is what some call charisma, and others call moral authority.
