Fundsters interested in the mutual fund rating firms may want to take a look at a new column in the Associated Press. Yesterday Mark Jewell gave investors an overview of how Morningstar, Lipper and Standard & Poor's each rate mutual funds.

The AP cites what Morningstar's Russel Kinnel calls the "stupid penalty" (i.e. the difference in returns between the best and worst mutual funds). Both MutualFund Store founder Adam Bold and Brick Asset Management's [see profile] Encompass fund gain ink in the column.
