An Ex-SEC Commissioner Joins Gratio's Advisory Board

Former SEC commissioner Roel Campos has joined Gratio Capital's advisory board. San Francisco-based Gratio is the investment adviser to the Gratio Value Fund.

Campos' addition to the advisory board comes as Gratio is preparing to launch a product called GoalMine this fall. The product will enable investors to "access high quality mutual funds for as little as $25," company officials said.

Campos served as SEC commissioner from 2002 to 2007. He is currently a senior partner with law firm Cooley LLP.

Roel Campos Joins Gratio Capital Advisory Board

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 2 -- Gratio Capital, a San Francisco-based asset management firm creating asset building products for underserved consumers, today welcomed former SEC Commissioner Roel Campos to the company's Advisory Board. Campos is also a former member of President Obama's Transition Team Economic Advisory Board. Campos will work directly with the Gratio founders and Board of Directors to shape the company's strategy and assist in regulatory compliance. Gratio plans to introduce an innovative investment product called GoalMine early this fall that will allow anyone, regardless of investing experience or income level, to access high quality mutual funds for as little as $25.

"Americans today desire more than ever to save and help secure their financial futures. However, many mutual funds and other retail products require minimum investments that are difficult, if not impossible, for many people to reach. We need regulated and well managed mutual fund products that will be accessible to Americans from all walks of life," said Campos. "I look forward to helping Gratio make that a reality."

The first Hispanic member of the Securities & Exchange Commission (the "SEC"), Campos served as a Commissioner from 2002 until 2007. He advocated for transparency in mutual fund products and for improved rules under the Investment Company Act. He was also the Commission's liaison to the international regulatory community and became an influential voice for the convergence of standards and for rational regulation that promotes cross-border transactions.

Included among his many distinctions are his recent appointment to the Presidential Intelligence Advisory Board (PIAB), and in 2008, he was named to The National Law Journal's 50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America. Recognized as one of the top Latino leaders in America, he is a founding member of the New America Alliance, a Latino initiative for raising awareness of investment opportunities in the Latino sector in the United States.

"Mr. Campos shares our belief that the ability to build assets should not be a privilege reserved for a few, and he will play a critical advisory role as we prepare to introduce a groundbreaking investment product accessible to all Americans," said Gratio Capital co-founder and chief investment officer, Rimmy Malhotra. "We enthusiastically welcome him to the Advisory Board and are privileged to benefit from his considerable expertise in finance, investment, law and business gained through an accomplished career in business and serving at the highest levels of government."

Currently, Campos is a senior partner with Cooley LLP, a national law firm. He advises corporate management teams and boards of directors on enforcement, internal investigations, prosecutions, securities and international regulation, and corporate governance.

Prior to the SEC, Mr. Campos was a founding partner of a Houston-based radio broadcasting company. Earlier in his career, he worked for major California law firms as a corporate transactions and securities lawyer and was also a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles. He began his career as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. A graduate of Harvard Law School, he also holds a master's in business administration from UCLA and received a bachelor of science degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy.
