AMEX Expands Beantown Presence

American Express has purchased the assets of Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Dynamic Ideas. This is a quantitative analysis and portfolio optimization firm. It has provided consultative services for asset management companies.

Dynamic Ideas has four employees: Gina Mourtzinou, Ph.D., Steve Kokkotos, Ph.D., George Vetoulis, Ph.D., and Thurston Towle, MBA. They will continue to serve American Express. Dimitris Bersimas, Ph.D. -- who co-founded the company -- will serve as a consultant.

"This acquisition is another major step in our drive to add to the depth of talent in our investment department," stated James Cracchiolo, chairman and ceo at American Express Financial Advisors. "It expands our quantitative capabilities as we look to provide retail and institutional clients with a broad range of quality investment products."

The Dynamic Ideas team will manage the U.S. equity portion of the AXP Managed Allocation Fund. It will also deploy its portfolio optimization models for new American Express separate account and mutual fund products.
