Wednesday, April 7, 2010 Russell Files to Launch 11 ETFs Russell Investments, known for its indexes, filed papers with the SEC last Friday to launch 11 ETFs. The April 2 filing marks the latest step that Russell is taking on the road to offering its own ETFs. The filing comes nearly three months after Tacoma, Washington-based Russell hired two ex-Barclays Global Investors executives, both of whom played a key role in building the global iShares business. Russell tapped James Polisson as managing director of the global ETF business and Andy Arenberg as managing director of global ETF distribution. As an index provider, Russell has licensing agreements with ETF sponsors including iShares, Direxionshares, ProShares and Rydex ExpressShares. In July of last year, Russell filed a 40-APP with the SEC, seeking exemption in order to offer passive and active ETFs. Russell's N-1A filing with the SEC last week did not list expense ratios for the ETFs. Russell Investment Management Company will serve as adviser to the ETFs, Russell Fund Services Company will be the administrator and State Street Bank and Trust Company will serve as transfer agent , custodian and portfolio accountant.
