Asset Manager M&A Tripled in 2009

Though there were fewer asset manager deals than in 2008, 2009 still saw a near-tripling of the assets involved in such deals. That's just one of the findings revealed in Berkshire Capital's "2010 Investment Management Industry Review."

According to Berkshire, in 2009 there 65 deals ("involving institutional and mutual fund managers) worth a total of $25.1 billion and involving $3.011 trillion in assets under management, compared with 77 deals worth only $8.7 billion and with $683 billion in AUM in 2008. That 2009 AUM figure was the highest since 2005, and the price total was the second highest, behind $34.7 billion worth of deals in 2006.
