Vanguard Makes Manager Moves


The Vanguard Group is OK'ing changes among the portfolio managers on its Wellington Fund and Energy Fund after the retirement of Ernst Von Metzsch, 62. He had been a senior vice president and a partner with Wellington Management Company will retire at year-end 2002. He served as portfolio manager of Wellington Fund since 1995, the Energy Fund since 1984, and the Balanced Portfolio since 1995.

Metzsch will be succeeded by Edward P. Bousa, who will be in charge of the Wellington Fund ($25 billion in net assets) and the Balanced Portfolio ($768 million) and Karl E. Bandtel who will be responsible for the Energy Fund ($1.6 billion in net assets).

Bousa, 43, is a vice president of Wellington Management and has previously served as a senior portfolio manager with Putnam Investments and Fidelity Management Trust Company.

Bandtel, 35, is senior vice president of Wellington Management Company and has worked with Mr. Von Metzsch on the Energy Fund since 1992.
