Basic Materials is a Draw?

ProFunds has zigged with its two the funds. Each focuses on a sector that many ProFunds shareholders would have likely found prosaic in the past. Now banks and materials may just be sexy enough.

The firm is opening the Banks UltrSector ProFund and Basic Materials UltrSector ProFund as of today. Each of the funds targets a return of one-and-one-half times its underlying index. Each of the funds is based on a Dow Jones US Sector Index.

The funds were opened to provide investors more options, explained Michael Sapir, president. The dull-sounding basic materials index also has a low correlation to the economy and is a sector that often leads coming out of a recession, added Sapir.

The funds are the thirteenth and fourteenth sector index funds offered by ProFunds.
