Franklin Adds Cost Basis to Web

Shareholders of Franklin Templeton will find it a little easier to find the cost basis of their holdings. The San Mateo, California-based firm is adding this information to its Web site.

Until now the information had been limited to the quarterly statements mailed to shareholders each quarter. The new information will be updated each Friday and can be found in the site's shareholder account information section.

The firm is not alone in working to provide this information to shareholders. Charles Schwab co-chief executive David Pottruck told advisors at the firm's recent annual Impact meeting that the broker is also working at adding this information for investors. Pottruck explained that the information would be limited to the previous six years and that their would be provisions for investors to modify the cost basis data since many investors move existing holdings to the broker. Modified data will be flagged as such in the system.
